Dr. Mai graduated with honors from Washburn University with a bachelor's degree of inter-disciplinary studies in biology, chemistry and business. She went on to earn her doctor of optometry degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, graduating with honors and receiving the clinical excellence award and outstanding student ambassador award for her class. During optometry school, Dr. Mai served as the president of the American Optometric Student Association and Fellowship of Christian Optometrists.
Dr. Mai is passionate about mission work, participating in three optometric mission trips to underserved areas of Mexico and Honduras. Before joining Genstler Eye Center, she completed an internship at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., where she received extensive training in ocular disease and pathology. Dr. Mai is currently a member of the Kansas Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry.
Dr. Mai and her husband, Clayton, live in Topeka and have a son, Kyler.
