4 Makeup Tips for HEALTHY, Luscious Eyelashes

I’ve never met a woman who didn’t want beautiful, long eyelashes.  Most of us will do and pay almost anything for luscious lashes. To enhance them we may use mascara, eyelash serums, extensions or even eyelash lifts and tints. But there are healthy and unhealthy ways to do it. Today, I’m sharing my top makeup tips for our patients – and you!

1) Remove your makeup every night

Leaving mascara, eyeliner and eye shadow on your eyes while sleeping can give bacteria and Demodex a safe haven to live on your lids and lashes. Demodex folliculorum is a microscopic type of mite. These bugs cause inflammation redness!

Bacteria that normally live on our lids can begin to grow in our mascara tubes. Get rid of dried out and clumpy products. Replace mascara every three months. Throw it out immediately if you’ve had an eye infection.

3) Avoid waterproof makeup

These makeups are specially formulated to stick to the skin. They contain parabens, waxes and polyethylene that build up on our skin and block glands that secrete parts of our tears, causing dry eye.

4) No tightlining or waterlining

Defining you lash line and making your eyes look bigger with this technique is extremely popular, but it shouldn’t come at the price of harming your eyes. This technique can also cause dry eyes!  It’s just a bad idea so skip it and keep your eyeliner under your lash line.
